JDRF Summer Soirée

What an amazing event!!!! The JDRF Southwest Ohio held their Summer Soiree at the Dayton Masonic Temple!!!!

The did everything right!

The venue was breathtaking with extra attention to details- for example, hiring a lighting company to change their lights to the mood... to a wonderful collection of silent auction & live auction items including the most adorable potty trained puppy!!!!! The event planning was fantastic!

They mixed a serious issue, Juvenile Diabetes, with fun in a very tasteful manner! The fundraising was not in your face, yet the slide shows and wonderful speakers truly made you realize how important it is to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes!

I bid on a few silent auction items with no success, but did win the Hot Air Balloon Ride Raffle which is really what I wanted!!!!! Woohooooooo go me!

Let's not forget, the food! Catered by Elite Catering (who I love since I've attended events they've catered before)!!! They actually PERFORMED every meal! Check out my vine for that!!!!!! INCREDIBLY fun, entertaining and amazingly delicious!

Diane, thank for your introducing me to your foundation & allowing me to meet your lovely family & open my eyes to a serious issue while having a wonderful night! You're the best!!!

I also met several amazing viewers & made two new girlfriends :)

Adventures in Columbus

Once in a blue moon, I'll get sent to the Ohio Statehouse to cover various political stories. Yesterday, I spent the day in Columbus covering two house bills that cleared the Ohio House Transportation, Public Safety & Homeland Security Committee.

Two Killed in Dayton Air Show Crash

What a tragedy to cover news such as this... Two people were killed at the Vectren Air Show at Dayton International Airport.

The pilot and wing walker were killed when the plane crashed, causing a large fireball.

"It's America" by Rodney Atkins

I've been listening to "It's America" by my favorite country singer, Rodney Atkins, all day today. I just needed the song for hope & motivation today!

I tweeted @RodneyAtkins to let him know I was enjoying the pool, listening to his song and he tweeted back at me!

I interview all sorts of people and never really get "star struck" but Rodney (and Blake Shelton) is one celebrity I had to meet! It was actually a US Senator who introduced us when I was covering an event a few months ago :)

As you can imagine, I was thrilled to get a mention by Rodney today!

What a gorgeous & perfect day to celebrate my good friend's engagement!!!!!

Elyse Coulter from ABC 22 has been a good friend of mine from my Virginia WHSV days and our friendship has grown in Dayton Ohio!!!

She is officially and finally engaged to her best friend, Ryan!

I'm so happy for both of you & supe happy we got to celebrate with delicious food at The Pub on the most beautiful afternoon!!!

Look at her rock!!! Ryan did amazingly well!!! It shines from miles away!!!!!!!

Cirque Du Soleil Quidam

Cirque Du Soleil Quidam is in town at Wright State University's Nutter Center!

I promise, it does not disappoint!!!

My first Cirque Du Soleil was in DC & I've seen others including La Nouba in Orlando... I must say- Quidam was amazing! It was also incredible to meet everyone during load in and practice before show!

We had a great time and excellent meeting everyone!!!!!

For some reason, when I work the early shift, I can barely sleep! Today, I woke up naturally at 12:45am to come to work!!!

At any rate, it was a typically fun Saturday in my book!!!!!

Yes, it's freezing in the studio, so I had to wear sweatpants under my dress!!!

Restaurant Review- Salar!

Salar is Dayton's new Peruvian Restaurant and it does not disappoint!!!!! Apryl and I had an amazing dining experience with delicious Peruvian Empanadas, Fresh Mussels & Shrimp Skewers! Yum!

I love the atmosphere & the salt & pepper shakers!

Exotic Animals Attraction?

For some reason, I always come across exotic animals- tigers, alligators... today- a 4 ft snake from the Cincinnati Zoo who paid a visit to our newsroom

Im really not afraid of much... okay, when I'm working.. I'm afraid of NOTHING

There are times and places my photographers and I are forced to go to for work... but I never say no and frankly, I'd go just about anywhere and do just about anything (even with tigers, alligators.. and bees)

Last week, I had the pleasure of hanging out with BEES

Yes, I get minor allergic reactions when stung (twice now)... but I'd sacrifice the swelling uncomfortable somewhat painful feeling for a live shot... which is what happened here...

My photographer though, has worse allergies.. and the beekeeper asked him, "Do you have an epi-pen?"

The answer was ... "no"... but we do have incredible zoom capabilities!

Alligator Seized from Basement

Alligator Seized from Basement of Huber Heights Home

I am a huge animal lover and whenever I hear about heartless animal cruelty cases, I just wonder how some people can be so horrible!

This time, it's an alligator who was living in a basement of a Huber Heights home in a residential neighborhood. Apparently, the alligator lived without sunlight and weighs much less than it should. The gator is missing teeth and is malnourished. It's so weak, it barely crawls.

 

Without the owners knowledge (according to neighbors) We're told people may have taunted the reptile by throwing its head against the cement wall on top of it being deprived of proper care.

My heart goes out to this alligator and hope it gets to recover, he's on his way to an alligator reserve in Florida!

$1,600 Sick Puppy Purchased at Pet Store

Riverside Woman, Sheila Burton, adopts a $1,600 Pomeranian Puppy from Petland in Vandalia only to find the puppy is severely sick.  We investigate Petland's "warranty" and dig into where this little puppy came from. We talk to Petland, the dog's breeder (you'll be surprised to hear more about him)... the Humane Society of the United States and the local chapter of the Humane Society of Greater Dayton

Sometimes it only takes something very simple to make you appreciate life so much more...

Restaurant Review- Tickets in Fairborn

My photographer, Darin Pope, and I finally had a chance to grab lunch between story shoots on Friday!

I asked my Facebook friends were we should go in Fairborn! Overwhelming response was "Tickets!" I can always trust my Facebook friends for great recommendations so we headed downtown for chicken pita & seasoned fries!

Yummy!

Only problem, they don't take American Express!!! So Darin had to pay for me!!!

I'll pay you back! I promise!

Strawberry Pickin'

Always fun at Monnin Fruit Farm, especially during strawberry season!

What DELICIOUS sweet berries that are even bright red in the center & oh so juicy!!!!!

I also picked up some peaches :)

Restaurant Review- Wellington Grille

As everyone knows by now, I love trying new local places! It took months in the making (talks since January!) but we finally got a group of us together!

It was a wonderful evening of great food & company! The staff- incredibly friendly & wonderful! They also all watch Channel 7!!!

The Wellington Grille in Beavercreek ha wonderful bread (as suggested by Yelp reviews) and loved the Brie appetizer!

I ordered the French onion soup, Caesar salad & crab cake & Wellington Grille did not disappoint !

After a "Happy Recovery to you" (long story)... the table shared the Grille's special Brownie a la mode & crime brûlée!

Delicious!
